Last June, I had the privilege of visiting Barcelona, a city I cherish for many reasons. The trip began in Madrid as a gift to myself to celebrate my birthday. Thanks to the efforts of Sara, @musicas.sospechosas, and Marcelo from @afrolatinjamallstars, along with the collaboration of Dilla Barcelona, I had the opportunity to do the lecture Sound Map of Salsa Music in NYC there. It was heartwarming to be surrounded by friends I hadn’t seen in eight years, whom I love deeply while I was doing it.
Holding the conference in Barcelona was a dream come true. It was wonderful to see the Sursystem magazine end up in the hands of people eager to learn more about the history of Salsa and Sursystem itself. The impact of the Sursystem 3R edition, La Linterna, on attendees unfamiliar with it was truly gratifying, especially since it was their first (and last) time in Barcelona.
The soundtrack for the conference was curated by Sara and Marcelo, and the photos included here were taken by Camila Gómez @camilag_ov. I wholeheartedly thank this remarkable group for enabling me to share my reading, and I am grateful to everyone who attended for supporting this independent initiative. To those who purchased Sursystem 08 and Sursystem 3R, I hope you enjoy them.
Enjoy!
Ens veiem!
