SURSYSTEM 3R EDICIÓN INSTITUTO BOGOTANO DE CORTE

Este es el Sursystem 3R que elaboré en el taller de autoproducción Reusa, Recicla y Repiensa el pasado 29 de diciembre en el @institutobogotanodecorte Ahí aparecen (en blanco y negro), Los ensayos gráficos que lxs asistentes hicieron para esta edición, más los 14 instructivos que hacen parte del contenido. Para la  decoración de esta copia, tanto en la portada/contraportada utilicé 14 sellos diferentes.

En cada taller que realizo, los participantes aprenden a armar un libro siguiendo las instrucciones que les dicto mientras armo mi propio libro con todo el contenido que se realiza durante el taller.  

Lo que más me gusta de realizar este trabajo de autoproducción de un impreso independiente de bajo presupuesto con materiales reusados, es que cada copia es única, aunque todas tengan el mismo contenido. De nuevo gracias al @institutobogotanodecorte por el espacio y la camaraderia y a todxs los que participaron en el taller.

This is the Sursystem 3R I created in the Reuse, Recycle, and Rethink self-production (DIY) workshop on December 29th at the @institutobogotanodecorte. It features (in black and white) the graphic essays that the participants created for this edition, along with the 14 instruction manuals included in the content. I used 14 different stamps to decorate this copy, both on the front and back covers.

In each workshop I conduct, participants learn to assemble a book following the instructions I give them, while I assemble my own book with all the content generated during the workshop.

What I love most about self-producing (DIY) this low-budget, independent print publication with recycled materials is that each copy is unique, even though they all contain the same content. Thanks again to the @institutobogotanodecorte for the space and camaraderie, and to everyone who participated in the workshop.

TALLER MAGAZIN SURSYSTEM 3R EN EL INSTITUTO BOGOTANO DE CORTE

Hola todxs, feliz año, primero que todo! 

Faltando dos días para que se terminara el 2025, tuve la oportunidad de realizar el taller de autoproducción del Magazin Sursystem 3R (Reusar, Reciclar y Repensar), en el Instituto Bogotano de Corte (IBDC); este fue el quinto taller del SSyS_3R que he realizado en BGT en los últimos 12 años, esta vez gracias a la gestión de Omar en el IBDC. 

En total fueron nueve talleristas, algunxs muy jovenes, que aportaron desde su talento piezas artísticas, realizadas usando el collage, la ilustración y/o la composición, para el contenido del magazín; además de la creación de las portadas y contraportadas que utilizaron para sus ejemplares, que ellxs mismos aprendieron a armar. 

Fue un taller de seis horas donde ningunx de los asistentes abandonó o se quejó del trabajo que se estaba realizando. Todxs terminaron el taller y se llevaron a casa un ejemplar del Sursystem 3R elaborado por ellxs mismxs, decorado por ellxs mismxs y ensamblado por ellxs mismxs, donde la principal característica no era sólo su originalidad y utilidad, sino lo paradójico de su existencia: todos los ejemplares realizados en el taller tienen el mismo contenido: catorce instructivos más las nueve piezas originales que se elaboraron para su contenido; pero ninguno de los magazines elaborados en el taller es igual a otro, debido a la reutilización del papel donado por el IBDC y a los papeles para reusar aportados por lxs asistentes para la impresión del contenido.

Para este post, quiero compartir las portadas de los ejemplares realizadas por lxs asistentes al taller, más la que yo realicé para mi ejemplar y que contiene 14 sellos diferentes. 

De nuevo quiero agradecer a Omar por abrir el espacio para realizar el taller pero también por su trabajo y apoyo durante el mismo; igualmente mil gracias a lxs asistentes por su interés y por no caducar durante todo el proceso de elaboración del SSyS_3R.

Hello everyone, happy new year, first of all!

With two days left until the end of 2025, I had the opportunity to conduct the Sursystem 3R (Reuse, Recycle, and Rethink) magazine workshop at the Bogotá Institute of Cutting (IBDC). This was the fourth or fifth SSyS_3R workshop I've held in Bogotá in the last 12 years, thanks to Omar's efforts at the IBDC.

There were nine participants in total, some very young, who contributed artistic pieces using collage, illustration, and/or composition for the magazine's content. They also created the front and back covers for their copies, which they learned to assemble themselves.

It was a six-hour workshop where none of the participants left or complained about the work. Everyone finished the workshop and took home a copy of Sursystem 3R that they had created, decorated, and assembled themselves. The main characteristic of these magazines is not only their originality and usefulness, but also the paradoxical nature of their existence: all the copies made in the workshop have the same content—fourteen instruction sheets plus the nine original pieces created for the magazine—but none are exactly alike, due to the reuse of paper donated by the IBDC for printing the content and the recycled paper brought by the participants.

For this post, I want to share the covers of the magazines created by the workshop participants, plus the one I made for my own copy, which contains 14 different stamps.

Again, I want to thank Omar for providing the space to hold the workshop, but also for his work and support throughout the process. Likewise, a huge thank you to the participants for their interest and for their perseverance throughout the entire creation of SSyS_3R.

University Open Air: From Fields to Cities: The Journey of Sayings

This lecture explores the fascinating evolution of popular sayings, tracing their roots in rural communities and examining how they’ve been reshaped in urban environments. We’ll look at how these expressions reflect cultural and social changes as they move from agrarian life into city living.

We’ll begin by discussing the role of oral tradition in preserving cultural wisdom, and how sayings have served as tools for teaching values, caution, and humor. Then, we’ll explore the historical shift during industrialization, when rural populations migrated to cities, bringing their language with them. We’ll see how these sayings adapted to new urban realities and how they continue to bridge generational and cultural divides.

At the end of the lecture, participants will be invited to share rural sayings that are still used today, as well as sayings from their own backgrounds that have had a positive impact on their lives in New York City.
