88' RIOT ANNIVERSARY AT TOMPKINS SQUARE PARK, LOWER EAST SIDE, NEW YORK CITY

This Saturday, August 6 is the anniversary of 88' Riot at Tompkins Square Park, from 2 PM to 6 PM, come a pass by and enjoy and support the bands, vendors, artists and neighbors in this iconic day. I will be there offering the @magazinsursystem 3R @lalinternacali and @tallercolmillo edition, also, I will bring for sell the @lalinternacali Salsa posters. It will be a nice summer day in the park, plenty of activities and stories.

MAGAZIN SURSYSTEM 3R EDICION TALLER COLMILLO, BOGOTA

Este sábado 14 y domingo 15 de mayo voy a estar realizando el taller de autoproducción del Magazin Sursystem 3R en las instalaciones del Taller Colmillo en Bogotá, Colombia. El taller tiene un costo de 70 mil pesos e incluye todos los materiales necesarios para realizar tu ejemplar del Magazin Sursystem 3R; vamos a reutilizar todos los impresos del taller colmillo para imprimir los instructivos originales del SSyS_3R y además los participantes van a elaborar un doble página con la técnica del collage, stencil y/o ilustración que se incluirá en el contenido del magazin. La portada y la contraportada de esta edición estará a cargo de Taller Colmillo. Para hacer mucho más divertido el taller, los participantes pueden traer contenido propio que quieran imprimir en el papel del taller Colmillo, como textos, poemas, ilustraciones… etc y que quieran incluir en su Sursystem 3R. Se recomienda también llevar al taller stickers, sellos, postales o stenciles con los cuales se pueda decorar la publicación y sus páginas. Al final del taller los participantes habrán construido su propio Sursystem 3R, único e irrepetible, y además recibirán un segundo ejemplar de parte del Taller Colmillo.

SURSYSTEM 3R MAGAZINE IN LA FERIA BY BARRIO COLLECTIVE, BK

The last January 29, I was in Bushwick, BK, in a place called The Freya (@freyabrooklyn) selling the Sursystem 3R Magazine La Linterna edition (@magazinsursystem) for the first time in NYC, it was a very windy, snowy and cold day, the streets were cover by snow and everything was wet and slippy... I also brought the Salsa posters from La Linterna to try to sell them there. It was a vendor and party event organized by Barrio Collective BK (@barriocollectivebk), there were many young people selling different things, art, clothes, vegan food, stickers, hats... etc. While outside the place the weather was terrible, inside the vibe and the warm was amazing, the time dedicated to the vendors was full of people who bought everything from the vendors, also, the vendors were buying things between them, which created a micro-economy where everyone benefited. After 9PM the party started and many local DJs were playing good and animated music, it was a mix of music for all around the world. I was there until more or less 1AM, and the balance of the event was good for me, I know the party went until 4AM, but I can't stand it, I needed to carry many kinds of stuff and the snow was falling outside, ahead was a long trip waiting for me to go home.

TALLER DE AUTOPRODUCCIÓN DEL MAGAZIN SURSYSTEM 3R EN LA LINTERNA

El último TALLER DE AUTOPRODUCCIÓN DEL MAGAZIN SURSYSTEM 3R que realicé en Cali fue en el año 2014 en un evento que se llamó La Previa Visual, después realicé, sino estoy mal, 4 talleres en Bogotá, antes de moverme a New York. Cuando ya estaba instalado en New York comencé de nuevo a realizar los talleres del Sursystem 3R en escuelas públicas de la ciudad mientras trabajaba en investigación, después empece a colaborar con la Biblioteca de Brooklyn que me abrió las puertas para, entre otras cosas, seguir haciendo el taller. 

Ahora, casi 7 años después del primer taller, vuelvo a Cali, la ciudad que vio nacer el Magazin Sursystem para realizar un Taller de Autoproducción, junto con el Taller de impresión La Linterna, lugar mítico de la ciudad donde se han producido -y se siguen produciendo- los carteles con los cuales los caleñxs nos enteramos de los grandes acontecimientos, políticos, deportivos y festivos, que ocurrían en la ciudad. Esos mismos carteles serán el papel en el cual se imprimirá el contenido del magazin SSyS_3R y los diseños que los participantes creen con los tipos móviles de La Linterna.
